Madeline…. We lived in Perry Barr, Birmingham at when it was The Queens Coronation and as a family we went to my aunties house in a big culdesac for their street party. I was dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood, my mother made my costume. I remember there were loads of tables set up with food that was a real treat in those days. We had jelly and blancmange, fairy cakes, lemonade, jam sandwiches. My brother was only 2 and he was wearing a romper suit. All the older children were in fancy dress costumes. My cousin was dressed as Uncle Sam in a big top has and bow tie and my friend Chris was Robin Hood. We didn’t have a TV back then but my dad always read the newspapers and I remember sweeping lots of photos in the newspapers afterwards.

I think The Royals are wonderful for what they represent and what they do for this country. I have kept all the newspaper cutting over the years of Royal Events such as Charles and Diana’s wedding, the boys being born and other historical events throughout my lifetime. I also have a card photo of Princess Alexandra and her husband Prince Albert from their wedding in 1863 which was passed on from my Grandad. He worked at The Birmingham Mail and he kept the picture card.

Keith…. We had a street party for The Queens Coronation with loads of tresses tables (no idea where they all came from) we lived in Lymadene Road, Perrybarr, Birmingham. My mother dressed me up as Robin Hood, almost all of the children wore fancy dress. We didn’t have a TV but we saw news reels afterwards at Clifton Picture House, it cost 3 old pence on a Saturday morning to watch Pathe Pacific back then. The news of that day also broadcast that Mount Everest was conquered for the first time by Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing.

When The Queen lay in state from from Wednesday 14 September until the morning of Monday 19 September 2022 we watched everything on TV from beginning to end, I even took photos of the TV screen. It was a very sad time as The Queen was like a mother to everyone and totally devoted her whole life to her duties as Queen.

I feel sorry for Prince Harry - he’s been hard done by the press and I know he loved his brother. William and Kate are fabulous and we think that Edward has really stepped up with his Royal duties since Prince Phillip passed away.

We are definitely Royalists and in our opinion we need the monarchy to continue.
