Dorothy Mitchell remembers our late Queen's coronation in 1953

I lived at 6 Frankfurt Street in Hockley. It was known as ' Bent's Yard', because a lot of the family named Bent lived in the back to backs that created the central yard. My sister Ivy was married to Arthur Bent and my other sister Lily married his brother Dennis. We were the only house that had a television and so all the neighbours watched the Coronation at our house. I remember my dad Albert and my mom Clara invited all their friends and family! I wore a blue skirt, red blouse and a blue and white hat. I was 13 years old and thought it was brilliant. It was all we talked about for weeks!!
