David lives in West Midlands and he met the Queen Mother in the 1960’s he cannot recall the exact year. Here’s what he shared:-
In the early 60’s I was learning to ski in the army and had an accident which caused a bucket handle tear in my cartilage.
Whilst in hospital in Germany The Queen Mother came to officially open the hospital. The only parts of the hospital painted up were the children’s ward and maternity ward so I had to be moved over and I remember there was a pink elephant at the head of my bed!
They came and insisted I had a haircut before the Queen Mother arrived and I had to lie to attention on her arrival. She came to speak to me in person and asked me what I’d done, I told her about my cartilage operation.
It was an honor to meet her in person.
As soon as she’d gone they moved me back to the grotty ward!!!
