We were traveling along the M1 with our caravan on the day that Princess Diana was being taken back to the family home after her death. The motorway had been closed and people came down the bank off the bridge and stood either side of the motorway to watch her go past. There were hundreds of people lining the sides of the motorway throwing roses towards the hearse. Diana was very well liked by the whole nation and it was an extremely sad time in our history.
——— David…. For the Queens Coronation in June 1953 I was 4 years old and recall our family went to The British Legion Club to celebrate the occasion, I remember we had a tea party and the PG Tips Chimpanzees were there, everyone had free tea! ——— Pauline… We always watch all the Royal events that are televised, I remember watching Charles and Diana’s wedding in 1981.
I did see The Queen personally once when I went to Ascott for Ladies Day in 2013. It was the year that The Queens horse Estimate won the Gold Cup. I remember she went by very slowly in the chauffeur driven car waving to all the crowds and we stood at the fence waving back to her - it was lovely.
