Me and my sister (sitting on the pavement with the blanket over us) waiting for the Queen to drive along Bradford Street on 27th July 1977 in Walsall. My Great Grandfather started Stanley’s ladies and gentlemens hairdressers. He owned the shop at 26 Bradford Street. That’s where we are sitting in front of. My Grandma, Iris Hill (nee Stanley) is sitting on the middle chair, with her sister Dorothy next to her and Marge, her sister-in-law (her husband Norman Stanley had taken over the business). My Grandmother’s father was Arthur James Stanley OBE, who was mayor of Walsall 1936-1937. He was awarded an OBE on 9th June 1947 in recognition of his political and public services to the borough.
It was a great day
